Join Us

Whether you’re a seasoned outrigger canoe paddler, a SUP and kayaking enthusiast, or a newcomer to paddle sports, Kai Elua is the perfect place for you! As the longest-running outrigger canoe club on Mission Bay, we pride ourselves on being inclusive, welcoming, and providing an invigorating, fun, and great workout experience. Our sport is infused with aloha spirit and deep Polynesian roots.

The off-season (October to February) is an ideal time to try out paddle sports. Our active community is involved in various activities both on and off the water. (Optional but fun!) Participate in volunteer beach clean-ups, theme parties, full moon paddles, the OB Christmas Parade, and the San Diego Santa Run. You can say we’re a social club with a paddling problem!

NEW PADDLERS welcome, no experience necessary. Outrigger introduction and off-season practices through February are FREE! Join us to see how this sport and community are so addictive!

Saturdays 7:30am-10am at North Cove Beach on Vacation Island near Paradise Point Resort (detailed directions here). Meet us in the parking lot to sign a waiver and check in. 

What to bring: Your sense of adventure, water, sunscreen/hat and quick-dry clothes (no cotton). Paddles, canoes and introductory coaching provided. Bring a change of clothes for after. You should be comfortable in the water and able to swim 200 yards.
